THREE FUN FACTS ABOUT CONCRETE AND CEMENT
CONCRETE HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG, LONG TIME
Many people believe that concrete is a twentieth-century innovation. And it is true that during that time, the use of concrete grew enormously. Buildings, roads, dams, driveways, and parking garages blossomed in the United States and the developed world soon after 1900. However, concrete has been used by many civilizations around the world for centuries. The ancient Romans made concrete by mixing lime, water, and volcanic ash from Mt. Vesuvius. They called it “Pozzolana”. The durability of concrete is why we have so many examples of the engineering and architecture of Rome today.
HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO GET A STAIN OFF OF YOUR CONCRETE FLOORS
If your car or truck has left an ugly spot on your concrete driveway or garage floor first remove dirt and other foreign matter. Then once it dries just spray it with a generous dose of WD-40. Let it soak in and finally hose it down thoroughly with plain water.
WORKING WITH CEMENT? TAKE SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS
Cement dust is a very fine particulate and requires the observance of some simple safety precautions. A full-face respirator and adequate gloves should always be used to prevent inhalation and direct skin contact. Wash skin with soap and water and rinse eyes with water in the event of contact. Keep cleaning products, water, and towels handy during your work sessions.
