Three Foundation Facts And A Concrete Joke
USEFUL FOUNDATION FACT
The longer wooden concrete forms are left in place after pouring a foundation, the stronger the wall. The ideal is 28 days. Too often builders on tight schedules remove forms after a week or even less. This does not allow the concrete to reach its maximum strength.
INTERESTING FOUNDATION FACT
Excess water added to cement makes pouring easier. However, too much water reduces the maximum strength of the concrete and can contribute to cracking.
LITTLE KNOWN FOUNDATION FACT
Poured foundation walls and floors are vibrated with a high frequency mechanical probe just after they are poured. This process creates consolidation by eliminating almost all air pockets and voids and forcing excess moisture to the surface, where it can be scraped off.
CONCRETE JOKE
The workers who poured a concrete floor were arguing with those who had poured the wall of a new home. They finally agreed that it had been a joint venture.
